»We are in a black phase right now...«, the band Hope responded when we commissioned them to write a piece for Pop-Kultur. Luckily, at the same time they bring light into the very darkness they thematise: »We are interested in the nourishing and productive aspect of darkness,« they say. »Darkness as a place of creation, of germination and growth, of connectedness and encounter—with oneself, with the unknown. Darkness as a place of sharpened sensory perception, of curiosity and freedom, not least of the freedom of personal expression.« In collaboration with the space choreographer Moritz Majce, Hope have developed a performance for the locality of the RambaZamba Theater that offers a sensual experience and makes sound and space palpable throughout the whole body. The performance is »concert, sculpture, community space, and uterus all at once,« they describe. These are luminous prospects, even in the darkest phase.
