As Kedr Livanskiy, the Russian artist Yana Kedrina delivers a surprise behind every strike of the snare. In this project, her reverb-laden voice rises to elegiac song, and she lets her hardware trio (Roland SH-101, Roland Juno 106, Korg Minilogue), spin freely. It was with this instrumentation that she also recorded her recent album »Ariadna«. Kedrina draws inspiration from the cosmic, smoky Krautrock tradition as well as from the Braindanceria of the early nineties and a rich collection of (post-) Soviet synthesizer music, but she also places the feet of her set-up firmly on the ground of the present. For the Russian artist, the step from the functional structure of digital interfaces to the analogue is not a step back, but rather forward. Accordingly, the result is something between anthemic pop and crazy electronica: always surprising, always full of twists.
