There’s a lot of talk about what Berlin is like, how it sounds and smells, how it looks and tastes. The truth, though, is that Berlin is a collection of building blocks, a cultural remix pack waiting for your input and dedication. For a while now, Mix The City provides sample banks for audio and video from cities all over the world, from Northeast India to Glasgow. The specific sounds of the respective areas can be combined with moving pictures through your browser window before you send off the result throughout the world as a finished video. With the help of artists such as Tarwater, ANDRRA, Barbara Morgenstern, Gewalt, Masha Qrella, and the Chor der Kulturen der Welt, Pop-Kultur will now bring the project to Berlin after the successful launch of a Glasgow edition. The artists provide short musical snippets; the rest you piece together after the beat of your own drum. It’s a symphony of the metropolis, updated for the year 2018. At the end, you’ll be left with one conclusion: Berlin is whatever you build with it. The Berlin edition of Mix The City will be shown as an installation on RambaZamba’s rehearsal stage, and online from August 13th: www.mixthecity.com
