The documentary »Silvana«, shot by Mika Gustafson, Olivia Kastebring and Christina Tsiobanelis, begins in the middle of the 2014 Swedish election year, and the prognosis is bleak. But while the nationalists are gaining traction, Silvana Imam climbs onto the stage and forms an opposing front: sparse beats, strong words, an identity all her own. Silvana is a lesbian, she’s non-white, she’s the child of immigrants, and she’s a self-declared feminist. In short, Silvana represents everything this society has a problem with—only she refuses to accept that state of affairs. Above all, the film, which will be shown in cooperation with the Lesbisch Schwule Filmtage Hamburg at Pop-Kultur for the first time in Germany, takes a first-hand look at the rapper, who has had to come to terms both with her sudden success and with a relationship that has been in the limelight from the moment it began.

»Pop-Hayat«

»Hayat« means life. In this programme, curator Yesim Duman, a Golden Pudel resident, ByteFM presenter, activist, and organiser who helped plan some of the events in Pop-Kultur’s programme last year, condenses her involvement in the queer club scene and the post-migrant discourse into one series, bringing artists from various genders and races onto the stages and behind the scenes of the Pop-Kultur Festival. It will include the film »Silvana«, a documentary about the Swedish rapper Silvana Imam, discussions with the author Fatma Aydemir, the rapper Lady Bitch Ray, MISSY journalist Hengameh Yaghoobifarah, and the artist Ebru Düzgün aka Ebow, as well as Nachwuchs workshops on gender equality with Lady Bitch Ray and Caren Miesenberger and, of course, the festival's final club night featuring BEARCAT and KILLA. Hayat, life, should be enjoyed in all of its facets.
